Rob & Big Loves Threadless
2008-02-12T09:06:32 - I Love Your T-Shirt

In collaboration with Threadless, the original online tee shirt design community, “Rob & Big Loves Threadless” is an open call for design submissions to the fans of the celebrated MTV show.

Rob & Big Loves Threadless

The theme for design submissions is “Let Me Tell You About My Best Friend,” and fans can submit and/or vote for their favorite inspired-designs on the site, as well as interact with other fans through the community message boards.

The designer of the tee that’s chosen for print will receive $2000 in cash, a $500 Threadless gift certificate and MTV-sponsored goodies, including an XBox 360 with a full Rock Band package and Rob & Big DVDs, along with having their design printed by Threadless and sold through the Threadless store.

The scoring public has the opportunity to purchase the wearable art inspired by Rob & Big!

CALVIN KLEIN TO BEGIN E-COMMERCE IN JULY 2008
2008-02-09T22:24:00 - We Are the Market

Yesterday, I was tipped off by two very reliable sources at Calvin Klein that they are to jump on the eCommerce bandwagon this Summer. The company has recently opened five US retail locations for their White Label, and the website will stock items from the store, and possibly exclusives as well. While their underwear line already has its own site, I have to admit I am far more interested in what they make to go on top, than underneath. Although perspicacious labels like YSL already offer online shopping, its still nice to see that they're getting in on the action!-(VJ-R)

Graphic Violence by The Cut @ Karmaloop

Graphic violence hoodie by The Cut @ Karmaloop

Is there meant to be a certain amount of irony in this design? That there aren’t really any graphics on it except for the paint splatters and claw marks? That instead of something illustrative they went with the ‘go to’ font of Helvetica?

Still pretty cool hoodie.

If you had the opportunity, how would you dress Senator Clinton? I would go with Carolina Herrera, something really classic. Maybe some Chanel suits, something really refined. RETAIL: OAK OPENS IN MANHATTAN TODAY
2008-02-04T17:19:03 - We Are the Market

Oak, one of Brooklyn's hottest boutiques has finally set roots in Manhattan. We haven't been down there yet, so we leave it to Refinery29 to tell us what its like... "Tucked away on a narrow corridor between Lafayette and the Bowery, Oak's newest space—its location, as well as its merchandise—is emblematic of the owners' continuing interest in thriving on the fringes. "We tend to buy clothes that are a little bit different, a bit borderline...art-inspired, or formally unusual, but always wearable." Likewise, the store's interior—sparsely furnished and punctuated with a sculptural central fixture—blurs the boundaries between gallery and retail space. Oak's NoLita location will carry most of the labels currently available at the Williamsburg store (Ksubi, Alice Ritter, Jeremy Scott, and the like), so Manhattanites seeking retail therapy no longer have to brave the trek out to North 8th Street. And Brooklynites suffering from outer-borough abandonment needn't fear: (Owner Louis) Terline assures us that he and (co-owner Jeff)Madalena live in Brooklyn, have their offices in Brooklyn, and intend to stay there. "In fact," he says, "we're really hoping that the Williamsburg store will become an incubator for our more adventurous schemes, the place where we'll take bigger risks and figure out what works."

Emptees - community for t-shirt designers by Big Cartel
2008-01-25T19:56:31 - Tcritic

Hugetypebig 01

I found this Huge Type Looks Sweet shirt on a community/social networking site for T-Shirt designers called Emptees. This is the site you want to be hanging out at if you are an upcoming designer who is starting your own line, or submitting designs to sites like Threadless and Designed By Humans. I’ve trolled a bit around on the talk threads (which I found because a few kind folks were talking about me) and found it to be an incredibly positive and supportive environment for people to show off their work, get critiqued, and get advice on the business side of things. Not only is this a great place for designers, I highly recommend it if your looking for new and unique t-shirts, everyone is showing off their work, and there is a voting system to promote stuff that the community loves. Emptees doesn’t do any of the printing or anything they just link to where you can buy the finished article.

It makes total sense that Big Cartel would start something like this, as they essentially provide very simple online store and ecommerce functionality that is perfect for running your own t-shirt store. Big Cartel currently hosts over 12,000 stores and has built there business entirely through word of mouth marketing.

Here’s another find from Emptees which you can buy at Designed By Humans. Faces

Great stuff guys, i’ll be hanging out there more :-)

Project Runway: The Gastric Bypass Episode
2007-12-13T16:47:34 - Village Voice

Thank God we only ever bet fake money, because we were positive the guest judge was going to be Kirstie Alley or Valerie Bertinelli last night on Project Runway. Instead it was a guy from the Gap. Boring!

So, after a couple of weeks of lame challenges, Bravo brought back the magic with a bunch of ladies who had been real fat in the eighties, then had slipped into comas for a few decades, during which they lost 50 or 100 pounds, and then they woke up, still wearing their favorite, now gigantic, heinous blazers from the Working Girl days.

Seriously, that's your favorite outfit? Now that you don't have to shop in the fat lady store, that's still your favorite outfit??

Anyway, the designer had to work with this crap and these not ideal models, and they came up with some bizarre shit. Hot transformer HIV guy had to leave because his mouth blew up like a Japanese cartoon character. It was sad and we were shocked that it didn't make us cry. Wilmer did cry, however. Unsurprising. He was so proud of his insane Fulton Mall outfit. Whatever. Pass the joint this way.

Winalo

Artifex t-shirts are all made from 100% organic cotton, and feature designs related to sustainability and environmental issues. Not only that the shirts are reasonably priced at $17 each, and they even donate $3 for every windmill shirt toward Native Energy, a company dedicated to bringing new renewable energy solutions to market.

With every Windmill t shirt sold, we donate $3 to Native Energy , an organization that facilitates the production of clean energy projects. Supporting a Native Energy program goes beyond merely buying energy from a renewable source: the offsets you purchase will fund a renewable energy project that would not have been possible otherwise.
